Marin Cancer Institute at Marin General Hospital Receives $4 Million Gift From Grateful Patient

GREENBRAE, CA — The announcement of a $4 million gift to Marin General Hospital’s radiation oncology department from a grateful patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, is eliciting words of thanks and praise from officials at the hospital.

“This spectacularly generous gift is not only a testament to the value this patient has placed on having leading-edge cancer treatments available right here in this county, but is also a ringing endorsement of the importance of Measure F which will allow us to continue to provide vital services such as comprehensive cancer treatment and trauma care in Marin County,” says hospital CEO, Lee Domanico.

Measure F is a $394 million General Obligation Bond measure on the November 5, 2013 ballot. The funds from the bonds will cover part of the cost to rebuild and modernize Marin General Hospital to ensure compliance with seismic safety standards designed to keep the hospital open in the event of earthquakes. Improvements will be made to vital areas of care such as the Emergency Department, Intensive Care and Critical Care Units, and patient and nursing areas.  It will also provide the latest lifesaving medical technologies for treating trauma, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other diseases.

The hospital is also counting on significant philanthropic support to help finance the rebuilding, according to Robert Dureault, executive director of the Marin General Hospital Foundation.

“This is not only a gift that will have a positive and lifesaving impact on the many people in our community who are touched by cancer sometime in their lives, but it is also proof that the donor community is ready and willing to do their part to support the hospital to ensure that Marin County continues to have access to trauma care and other vital healthcare services in the future.”
